Industry Participation

Subsaharan Atlantic Energy Ltd (ASAEL), though limited in publicly available standalone marketing material, is recognized for its strategic equity participation in oil and gas assets. This is achieved through joint ventures and special purpose vehicles (SPVs) that emphasize indigenous upstream development, aligning with Nigeria’s policy drive for greater local participation in the sector.

Key Asset: Olure Field (PML-67)

Asset Background ASAEL is a participant in the Olure Field, a marginal oil field located in the Niger Delta (Warri North Local Government Area, Delta State). The field was awarded during Nigeria’s 2020 Marginal Field Bid Round (MFBR) and forms part of the Oil Mining Lease (OML 49) acreage.

Joint Venture Structure

ASAEL holds a 30% equity interest in the Olure Field through its participation in Multisub Energy Limited (MEL), the SPV established to operate the asset. The remaining 70% is held by Multiplan Nigeria Ltd (MNL), making MEL the operating vehicle for field development and production.

  • Established in 2021 as an independent oil and gas E&P company to develop and operate the Olure Field (PML-67).
  • Equity ownership: 70% Multiplan Nigeria Ltd, 30% Subsaharan Atlantic Energy Ltd.
  • Focused on upstream production, reservoir optimization, and sustainable hydrocarbon value creation.

This partnership highlights ASAEL’s role as a local upstream investor, reinforcing indigenous participation in Nigeria’s exploration and production activities.

Partnerships & Industry Context

Multiplan Nigeria Ltd (MNL) MNL is the majority equity holder (70%) in MEL and collaborates with ASAEL to advance the Olure Field project. Together, they pursue upstream opportunities in Nigerian marginal fields, leveraging technical expertise and stakeholder engagement.

SAPETRO (South Atlantic Petroleum) While not a direct partner in the Olure Field joint venture, SAPETRO is a prominent indigenous Nigerian E&P company with a diverse upstream portfolio in Nigeria and West Africa. It has engaged in strategic partnerships with international firms such as TotalEnergies on deepwater exploration blocks under Production Sharing Contracts, reflecting the broader ecosystem of indigenous operators in Nigeria’s upstream sector.

Equipped for Growth

A story is often told about the remarkable Chinese Bamboo. When you plant it, you must water, fertilize, and care for it diligently every single day—for four long years. During that time, there is no visible progress, no towering stalks, nothing to show for your effort compared to other plants that sprout quickly. But then, in the fifth year, something extraordinary happens. One morning, a small bamboo shoot breaks through the soil. The next day, it’s taller. Soon, it’s growing at an astonishing pace—nearly a meter each day. Within just five weeks, it can reach heights of up to 90 feet (27 meters).
